Helen is Director at the University of South Carolina Career Center. She has over 25+ years of professional experience in higher education and student affairs. Her areas of expertise include leadership, career development and education, employer relations, experiential learning, mentoring, student employment, assessment, technology, and business operations. Helen is an active leader in the field, serving on the Board of the South Carolina Association of Colleges and Employers (SCACE) and as Co-Lead for the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ (NACE) Career Services Professionals in Employer Relations Affinity Group.
A proud first-generation college student and Pell Grant recipient, Helen brings a student-centered and equity-informed lens to her work. She has presented at local, regional, and national conferences on a wide range of topics, including change management, AI in career services, college recruitment best practices, strategic planning, personal branding, and leveraging big data to inform career outcomes. Helen has additionally contributed to the profession through service on conference planning committees for SCACE and the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE), as a reviewer for professional conference proposals, and as a research grant reviewer for SoACE. She has also served as a manuscript reviewer for publications focused on best practices in career services and student transitions.
Helen earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Winthrop University, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Psychology. She was honored with the university’s prestigious Tillman Award, recognizing her as the graduate who most consistently exemplified academic excellence.
