Career Coach
University of Missouri-Kansas City
Independence, Missouri, United States
Dylan Green is a fairly recent transplant to the Kansas City metro area, having relocated from Florida in 2022. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in History at Culver-Stockton College, Dylan faced a career crisis (as do so many folks who underutilize career resources). Resolving to push forward into academia and stave of the "real world" that much longer, he enrolled in the Master of Arts in History program at the University of Central Missouri, graduating in 2019.
The first big break for Dylan came while completing his thesis requirements at UCM--landing a role as a success advisor for conditionally-admitted students. Unfortunately, the position went the way of so many great initiatives in Higher Education and was eliminated and rolled into a centralized advising structure. Fortunately for him, a soon-to-be friend and colleague reached out to let him know about a new opening on her team with UCM Career Services. Through some luck and some networking, Dylan found a home in what would become his most beloved department.
After having to relocate to Florida to be closer to family, Dylan job-hopped a few times (worth it) until landing on his feet at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. As one member of UMKC’s highly talented central Career Services team, Dylan answers questions on everything from higher education and career readiness to crossword puzzles and the logistical failings of riding giant eagles to Mordor. Hint: There are many, and I still have 1,000 characters left, so inquire at your own risk!
In every role, Dylan has brought and continues to bring a passion for helping students and graduates launch meaningful careers. He has over five years of career coaching experience across five different higher education institutions, including large public universities and local state and community colleges. Dylan completed career coaching training through Stanford University’s acclaimed Life Design Studio, building skills in guiding clients through self-reflection to design purposeful vocational paths. His academic background in History honed Dylan’s ability to understand diverse perspectives and respect the complex forces shaping personal and collective identities. As a historian, Dylan developed insights that aid him in appreciating each individual’s unique story and goals.
At UMKC, Dylan enjoys serving a diverse student population with wide-ranging needs. He helps undecided learners clarify their interests and chart rewarding academic and career trajectories. For students in historically marginalized communities, Dylan provides tailored support to overcome barriers to professional advancement. His empathy, authenticity, and design thinking mindset enable students from all backgrounds to gain self-knowledge and confidence to manifest their career aspirations. Dylan also assists student job seekers with résumé writing, interviewing skills and networking strategies to launch successfully after graduation (or hopefully even before).
Dylan is devoted to empowering students with the mindsets, tools, and opportunities to live purposeful, financially secure lives. He continues developing his career coaching expertise through ongoing training and peer collaboration. When not advising students, Dylan enjoys exploring Kansas City’s vibrant arts and culinary scenes, coffee shops, and tabletop gaming stores. Dylan looks forward to helping many more emerging professionals craft lives of meaning, fulfillment, and impact.
