Austin Community College, United States
Lisa Yates is an instructor and career coach on Austin Community College’s (ACC) Strategies for Today’s Jobs team. She empowers ACC students and community members through her job search strategy course and career coaching sessions, every four weeks.
Lisa has also taken a deep dive into the world of AI and speaks about her findings, experiences, and wisdom gained (from her classes and coaching sessions) to college faculty several times a year - on how to use AI creatively and judiciously. Even more so, understanding the ever-changing workplace, Lisa has plunged into the world of strength-led coaching within the context of NACE competencies - to raise the odds of student success in navigating a very competitive job market. With this approach, she has worked with students to successfully cultivate a growth mindset and awaken their potential to become competent and confident job candidates and employees. Along with Vijay Jacob, Lisa has presented to ACC faculty on this topic.
Leaning into her strengths from the get-go, Lisa charted a career path driven by curiosity and interests. Before ACC, Lisa worked in a variety of capacities - building a national apprenticeship program in partnership with colleges, universities, and local business communities; implementing a coast-to-coast financial literacy platform for nonprofit organizations and government agencies; growing a domestic economic development philanthropy initiative (including workforce development); revitalizing Hollywood to create jobs and affordable housing for local residents, and more.
Lisa hails from both coasts - and in-between - with an undergraduate degree from UCLA, Master of Urban Planning and Public Policy from University of Illinois, and Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.
