Dr. Matthew Paul Cowley is a leader in higher education and career services with more than a decade of experience at large public research universities (R1). In his current role, he provides strategic oversight to his institution’s central career services unit. Throughout his career, Dr. Cowley has taken a destination-oriented approach to career development – working alongside students to envision possible futures, ensuring they have tangible next steps to take toward their goals, and collaborating with professionals in University Relations & Recruitment Relations (employers), economic development, and others to advance students’ career preparedness. In addition to his work in university career services, he also provides career and executive coaching services to experienced professionals through his company, Find Your New Direction, LLC.
Dr. Cowley obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Curriculum & Instruction with specializations in Social Foundations of Education and Critical Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Culture in Education. His scholarship examines the intersections of race and higher education administration, curriculum, and outcomes. As an administrator his is drive by the opportunity to advance positive and equitable postsecondary outcomes for all students with a focus on developing strategic partnerships and executing innovative initiatives.
Dr. Matthew Paul Cowley’s experience facilitating career education for people at various stages in their career development - in conjunction with his Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS) credential and years of experience with teaching adults – afford him a broad knowledge of career development in various contexts and the ability to translate that knowledge to other learners.
