Laura Sheehan is an ICF-certified coach who currently serves both as the Associate Director of Graduate Coaching at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service and as an Adjunct Professor for The George Washington University's Elliot School of International Affairs.
Laura began her career as a lawyer. Shortly after beginning her first law firm job, she married her college sweetheart, whose work as a US diplomat almost immediately took them overseas. Over the span of the following 20+ years, they lived in eight (8) countries outside of the US. In every location, Laura had to find a new job...until, in 2016 she was hired to serve on contract as a Regional Global Employment Advisor for the U.S. Department of State. In that role, Laura was able to leverage her many job search and career transition experiences to offer group workshops and 1:1 career coaching to diplomatic spouses living countries across Asia.
Laura now utilizes her diverse personal and professional experiences to empower the next generation of international affairs professionals to find their place – wherever they are in life and in the world. She has served thousands of people - across industries and worldwide - and is always looking for ways to make the job search process more efficient, effective and exciting!
Laura has been recognized for her positive, proactive approach to the job search through awards, feature podcasts and as a speaker at international conferences. Check out her 2018 TEDx Talk on Career Change - now on the TED platform with more than 1.2 Million views!
