Glen Allen, Virginia, United States
Danny Robertson, M.A. (he/him/his), is a communications and public relations professional with a deep commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Danny is a dedicated advocate for the empowerment and authentic representation of marginalized communities, with a particular research interest and personal ties with the LGBTQIA+ community. He holds a master's degree in Reputation Management from Virginia Tech (2025) and a bachelor’s degree in Communication (Public Relations) from Virginia Tech (2023), and incorporated a lens of gender and sexuality into his undergraduate and graduate studies.
For the past three years, Danny served as the Social Media Manager for Virginia Tech’s former Office for Inclusive Strategy and Excellence, where he worked to elevate the digital presence of the university’s diversity initiatives and resources for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
In addition to his professional and advocacy work, Danny recently completed his master’s project, which was committed to assisting members of the Virginia Tech community in understanding the various layers of affordances related to LGBTQIA+ identity disclosure on social media. This interest was supported by a quantitative study he conducted over the 2023-2024 academic year, which was translated into an educational public relations campaign for the Pride Center at Virginia Tech. This campaign’s goals were to a) educate the Virginia Tech community on current strategies for identity disclosure online and b) enhance the impact and value of the Pride Center. To meet these goals, Danny implemented a comprehensive, research-driven campaign using social media posts, a hands-on workshop event, and a digital guidebook for long-term community access.
