Dr. Dana Holland Zahner is a Researcher with the Ethnography & Evaluation Research unit at the University of Colorado Boulder. Having taught undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals over many decades, Dana has a well developed and engaging presentational style. She is committed to sharing research findings that have a practical implications and has substantial experience in the areas of undergraduate STEM education and workforce development, including a special focus on students who begin their STEM career pathways in community college. Dana is currently a Co-PI on the NSF-funded study "Investigating How STEM Baccalaureate Graduates Use Assets Developed through Higher Education to Navigate Post-College Pathways" and she previously served as Co-PI on "The Two- to Four-Year Institutional Pathway to STEM Careers." Dana has presented and published research results widely, including as a co-author of the book Talking About Leaving Revisited: Persistence, Relocation, and Loss in Undergraduate STEM Education, which replicated the seminal study of factors contributing to attrition and retention among undergraduates in STEM. Her recent research has appeared in the Journal of College Student Retention, the Community College Journal of Research and Practice, Community College Review, and Change magazine. Dana has also served as the external evaluator on projects seeking to bolster institutional practices that improve outcomes for all STEM students.
