Beth has been at the University of Connecticut since 2001 and in the EL space since 2006. She has presented on internship and related EL content at the state, regional, and national level. At UConn, she is the primary contact person for the department and at times, the university, for questions related to internships and co-ops - when it comes to policies, procedures, and evaluating FLSA guidelines, affiliation agreements, insurance certificates, and similar types of documents. Beth has organized training sessions for UConn faculty and staff, course instructors, and students on these topics.
Recently Beth has been working with UConn General Counsel to develop boilerplate templates for students and employers to use instead of Affiliation Agreements, for students participating in an EL opportunity they found on their own, not connected to a formal or licensed program. Beth is not a lawyer, nor does she pretend to be one. However, she pays attention to the details and nuances employers put into their documents, position posts, etc. and will challenge those with established programs that appear to exploit students.
Currently, Bethis serving as president of the CT Career Consortium and is on the NACE Honors and Awards Committee; last year she was in the formal mentor program and also served on the EACE webinar committee. Past leadership included being the president of CCEIA and two different board roles on CEIA.
