Career Exploration Advisor

As a Career Exploration Advisor in the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University, I offer a career education experience that goes beyond resumes and job search advice. I approach career exploration like a scientific experiment: rooted in curiosity, informed by data, and driven by reflection. My goal is to empower students to take ownership of their career paths by integrating research, critical thinking, and experiential learning.
With a background in adult learning, K-12 education, and an MBA, I approach career education through multiple lenses. I help students not just explore career options but understand how their skills, interests, and experiences align with thier goals. Drawing from marketing principles, I teach students to build their personal brand, communicate their value, and create opportunities rather than wait for them.
A core part of my work is making the hidden curriculum of careers, those unspoken norms and expectations, more visible. This is especially important for first-generation and underrepresented students, who often face systemic barriers in navigating professional environments. I design programs that connect theory with practice, helping students not only gain knowledge but apply it with confidence.
I bring an interdisciplinary, student-centered approach to everything I do. Whether it’s guiding a student through their first internship, helping them articulate their research interests, or preparing them for graduate school, I focus on equipping students with the tools and mindset to thrive, not just in their first job, but throughout their careers.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts and Humanities with an additional major in Spanish, and a minor in Peace and Justice Studies as well as a Master of Arts in Student Affairs Administration, Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Postsecondary Education, and a Master of Business Administration specializing in Marketing.
