Unpaid and underpaid internships are a significant barrier to internship participation - having a marginalizing and disproportionately negative effect on underserved and underrepresented student populations. This session focuses on Virginia Tech's work with campus partners to ensure that much-needed resources make it to those most vulnerable.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will understand the governmental and institutional barriers to providing students' with financial support for unpaid/underpaid internships and how the most vulnerable are often not served well through institutional efforts.
Attendees will learn think creatively about ways to secure new resources or leverage existing resources that can support those most vulnerable to unpaid and underpaid internships.
Attendees will learn how to closely and critically read policies to find creative and compliant ways to reach their goals.
