Career advising must address race and ethnicity to truly support student success and to prepare mentors and advisors to guide students effectively. Join this immersive session to confront and challenge career choice disparagement and bullying in education, creating more inclusive career conversations and possibilities for student success.

Learning Objectives:

  • utilize a vocabulary that gives voice to career choice disparagement and career choice bullying, recognizing the prevalence of both in higher education and other environments.
  • explore and apply motivational interviewing strategies to conduct inclusive and empathetic career conversations, disrupting career choice disparagement and career choice bullying.
  • practice identifying instances of career choice disparagement and career choice bullying, through an immersive case, gaining additional insights relevant to the experiences of marginalized and minoritized students.
